Trying to get pregnant naturally or through IVF and wanting to give your uterus some love? We’ve got a hot-hot-hot treatment called moxibustion you can do easily at home (which we also integrate with acupuncture) to get that lining thick and juicy to support implantation.
What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion (moxa for short) is a traditional healing modality that involves the burning of the herb Mugwort (in a stick or cigar shape) over specific areas of the body to increase peripheral arterial blood flow and microvascular permeability. Simply put, it adds warmth into the deeper tissues of the body, drawing tons of fresh blood and nourishment to the uterus and ovaries to build the uterine lining and even benefit egg quality.
How Does Moxa Support Your IVF Transfer
A recent study has shown that moxibustion in combination with acupuncture can help to support the receptivity of the uterine lining and outcomes of IVF. The study concluded that in preparation for IVF embryo transfer, acupuncture and moxibustion affect estrogen levels on hCG day (day of the trigger shot), improve high-quality embryo rate, endometrial blood flow state and morphology so that the endometrial receptivity is increased – all leading to higher pregnancy and live birth rates.
Moxa is also effective at gently warming the uterus to increase menstrual flow if yours is scanty, reduce pain and cramping associated with endometriosis or ovarian cysts, reduce menstrual clots and stop spotting.
Ask us about moxa at your next treatment and we will show you how to use it at home.
