So you just learned PCOS has a new name — PMOS. Maybe you read about it online, maybe your doctor mentioned it, or maybe you caught our last blog. Either way, you’re probably wondering: okay, but what does this actually change for me and my fertility plan?
Great question. Let’s get into it.
The Rename Is Just the Beginning
Knowing the name changed is one thing. Understanding how it should shift your care is where the real power lives. The PMOS framework — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — signals that your treatment plan needs to address multiple systems at once: hormones, metabolism, inflammation, and reproductive function.
For too long, treatment defaulted to Clomid, a generic “lose weight” suggestion, and an ultrasound follow-up. That’s not enough. The new name gives integrative providers the scientific language to back what we’ve been doing all along — and gives you the language to advocate for more complete care.

Labs That Actually Tell the Whole Story
One of the biggest wins of the PMOS framework is what it means for diagnostics. When providers understand this as a polyendocrine and metabolic condition, the lab panel gets a whole lot more informative. Here’s what we love to review with our patients:
- AMH — your ovarian reserve and a key marker of follicle pool activity
- LH/FSH ratio — elevated LH relative to FSH is a classic PMOS pattern
- Fasting insulin + HOMA-IR — tells us how your body is managing blood sugar, which directly affects whether you ovulate
- Total and free testosterone + DHEA-S — the androgen levels driving acne, hair changes, and cycle irregularity
- Estradiol (E2) + progesterone 7 days post-ovulation — are you ovulating? And if so, is your luteal phase strong enough to support implantation?
If you’ve never had a full panel like this, that’s something we can absolutely help you advocate for at your next OB or REI appointment. You deserve the full picture — not just a piece of it.
What a Real PMOS Protocol Looks Like
Here’s what an integrative PMOS fertility plan looks like at Aphrodite — a whole-body approach for a whole-body condition:
Acupuncture — timed to your cycle
We don’t just do acupuncture whenever. We structure treatments to touch every major hormone shift: the follicular phase to support follicle development, ovulation to encourage a strong LH surge, and the luteal phase to support progesterone and implantation. Consistency is everything — weekly sessions are where we see the real momentum build.
Metabolic lifestyle support
Blood sugar stability is foundational for PMOS. That means:
- Protein-forward meals (aim for 30g at breakfast — yes, really)
- Warm, cooked foods over cold or raw to support digestion and circulation
- Bone broth for gut lining support and mineral density
- Reducing ultra-processed foods that spike insulin and, in response, spike androgens
Nervous system regulation
Your HPO axis — the hormonal command center that runs your cycle — is exquisitely sensitive to stress signals. Acupuncture directly downregulates the sympathetic nervous system, helping your body shift into the parasympathetic “rest and regulate” state where ovulation is far more likely to occur. This isn’t about “just relaxing.” It’s about giving your body the biological conditions it needs to thrive.
Cycle tracking with Inito (Code: APHRODITEINITO)
We love Inito because it gives us your real hormone data — not population averages. Seeing your actual LH surge, estrogen rise, and progesterone confirmation means we can adjust your protocol in real time, not guess.

Working With Your Medical Team, Not Around Them
At Aphrodite, we’re always collaborative. Your OB, REI, or endocrinologist is your medical quarterback — we’re the integrative support system running alongside. The PMOS framework actually makes this collaboration easier, because we’re all now speaking the same language: hormones, metabolism, whole-body health.
If you’re currently doing medicated cycles or heading toward IVF, acupuncture fits beautifully into that timeline too. We’ll sync with your protocol and make sure your body is as prepared as possible for every step.
You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone
You now have a diagnosis name that finally reflects your full experience. The next step is building a care team that treats you the same way — completely, and with intention.
We’d love to be part of that team. Text us anytime with questions — seriously, we mean it. Or, if you’re ready to dig into your PMOS protocol, let’s build a plan that fits your whole picture. 💛
