Cycle day 3 means the third day of your period, and that timing matters. By testing early in the cycle, we get a baseline before hormone levels shift later in the follicular phase. What Each Lab Means

AMH

AMH stands for anti-Müllerian hormone. It helps us estimate ovarian reserve, which means how many eggs you likely have available at this point in time. AMH is helpful, but it is only one piece of the picture, so a low number does not define your fertility or tell us everything about your chances of conceiving.

FSH

FSH stands for follicle-stimulating hormone. Your brain makes FSH to recruit follicles in the ovaries, so this number gives us a clue about how hard the brain may need to work to get that process moving. When FSH runs higher than expected, we pay closer attention to ovarian reserve and the overall hormonal conversation between the brain and ovaries.

LH

LH stands for luteinizing hormone. It helps trigger ovulation later in the cycle, but on cycle day 3 it gives us part of the baseline story. When LH looks elevated compared with FSH, that pattern can give us important clues about ovulatory function and conditions like PMOS.

Estradiol

Estradiol is the main form of estrogen. It helps us understand how active the ovaries are at baseline, and it also helps us interpret the FSH result more accurately. If estradiol is elevated early in the cycle, it can make FSH look lower than it really is, which is why we always read these labs as a group instead of in isolation.
