Yes, most women with endometriosis can still get pregnant. Endometriosis can make conception harder, but it is one of the most common conditions we support at Aphrodite, and many of our patients with endometriosis go on to conceive, both naturally and with IVF. The key is addressing the inflammation, pain, and hormonal disruption that endometriosis creates, not just waiting and hoping.

If you’ve been handed an endometriosis diagnosis and a vague sense that pregnancy “might be difficult,” we want to give you something more useful: a clear picture of what’s actually happening and what you can do about it.

How endometriosis affects fertility

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. It affects fertility through several pathways:

  • Chronic inflammation in the pelvis that can impair egg quality, fertilization, and implantation
  • Anatomical changes, adhesions or endometriomas that can affect the ovaries and fallopian tubes
  • Hormonal disruption and an often estrogen-dominant environment
  • Altered uterine receptivity, which can make implantation harder

Here’s the encouraging part: many of these pathways, especially inflammation and hormonal balance, are responsive to treatment. A diagnosis describes a challenge, not a verdict.

Can you get pregnant naturally with endometriosis?

Many women do. The likelihood depends on the stage and location of the endometriosis and whether other factors are involved. Mild to moderate endometriosis often still allows natural conception, particularly when inflammation and cycle health are actively supported. More advanced disease may benefit from surgical or assisted-reproduction support, and acupuncture still plays a valuable role alongside those.

How acupuncture supports endometriosis and fertility

Acupuncture is one of the most helpful integrative tools for endometriosis because it works on several of the condition’s core drivers at once:

  • Reduces inflammation, a central driver of endometriosis-related infertility and pain
  • Improves pelvic blood flow, supporting the ovaries, uterus, and a more receptive lining
  • Helps balance hormones and supports the body’s handling of estrogen
  • Reduces pain, including painful periods, a hallmark of endometriosis
  • Calms the nervous system, lowering the stress load that worsens inflammation

We combine acupuncture with anti-inflammatory nutrition, targeted supplements, and cycle support to create an environment that’s friendlier to conception.

Endometriosis and IVF

For patients whose endometriosis makes natural conception difficult, IVF is often a successful path, and acupuncture supports it well. We focus on improving egg quality before retrieval, calming pelvic inflammation, and preparing a receptive uterine lining before transfer. We provide on-site acupuncture around embryo transfer at San Diego fertility clinics and coordinate closely with your reproductive endocrinologist.

What you can start doing now

  • Prioritize anti-inflammatory eating, omega-3s, colorful vegetables, less refined sugar and alcohol
  • Support healthy estrogen metabolism (fiber, cruciferous vegetables, gut health)
  • Begin consistent acupuncture to address inflammation, pain, and cycle health
  • Get a clear diagnosis of stage/location so your plan can be specific. If you live in San Diego, we recommend a referral to Dr. Spring-Robinson in San Diego central or Dr. Behbehani in Newport Beach

Frequently asked questions

Can I get pregnant with endometriosis?
Yes. Most women with endometriosis can conceive, naturally or with assistance. Endometriosis can make conception harder by causing inflammation, hormonal disruption, and anatomical changes, but many of those factors respond to treatment.

Does acupuncture help with endometriosis and fertility?
Acupuncture can reduce inflammation and pelvic pain, improve blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, help balance hormones, and lower stress, all of which support fertility in women with endometriosis.

Is IVF a good option for endometriosis?
For many patients with endometriosis, IVF is an effective path to pregnancy. Acupuncture supports IVF by improving egg quality, calming inflammation, and preparing the uterine lining before transfer.

Will endometriosis affect my egg quality?
The chronic inflammation associated with endometriosis can affect egg quality, which is why reducing inflammation through diet, acupuncture, and targeted supplements is a core part of our approach.

How soon should I start treatment if I have endometriosis and want to conceive?
As early as possible. Because egg maturation and cycle changes take about three months, starting acupuncture and an anti-inflammatory plan sooner gives you the best foundation.
