If you’ve been trying to conceive, you probably hear a lot about ovulation. But many women still ask us, how do I actually know if I’m ovulating? The answer is more than just tracking your period. You can confirm ovulation with the right tools, and you can also support your luteal phase so your body has the best chance for implantation.
We walk through this every day with patients at Aphrodite. You deserve clarity, not confusion. Here’s how to know if you’re ovulating and how to use Inito (Code: APHRODITEINITO), OPKs, and progesterone tracking to understand your cycle.
What Ovulation Means
Ovulation happens when your ovary releases an egg. This usually occurs once per cycle, and it opens your fertile window. After ovulation, your body enters the luteal phase. During the luteal phase, progesterone rises to prepare the uterine lining for potential implantation.
If you ovulate, you will see a rise in progesterone after your LH surge. If you do not see that rise, you may not have ovulated that cycle. That’s why tracking both LH and progesterone matters.

Common Signs Of Ovulation
You may notice some physical signs when you ovulate. These signs can vary, and they do not replace testing, but they can help you spot patterns.
- Clear, stretchy cervical mucus that feels like egg whites
- A positive ovulation predictor kit (OPK) that shows an LH surge
- Mild cramping or twinges on one side of your lower abdomen
- A slight rise in basal body temperature after ovulation
- Breast tenderness, bloating, or higher energy in the days before ovulation

OPKs: What They Tell You And What They Miss
OPKs measure luteinizing hormone, or LH. When LH rises, ovulation usually happens within 24 to 36 hours. OPKs help you predict your fertile window, but they do not confirm ovulation.
Sometimes LH surges without an egg releasing. That’s why OPKs alone can leave you guessing. We tell patients to use OPKs as a prediction tool, not a confirmation tool.
Inito: How It Confirms Ovulation
Inito (Code: APHRODITEINITO) gives you more information than a standard OPK. It tracks LH to predict ovulation, and it also tracks PdG, the urine metabolite of progesterone. When PdG rises after your LH surge, you can confirm that ovulation happened.
Inito also helps if you have irregular cycles or PCOS. You get quantitative readings instead of a simple yes or no line. That means you can see your actual hormone pattern and make smarter decisions.
The Luteal Phase And Why It Matters
The luteal phase is the second half of your cycle, starting right after ovulation and ending when your next period begins. In most people it lasts around 12 to 14 days.
This is your implantation window: progesterone rises to thicken and stabilize the uterine lining so a fertilized egg has a cushioned, secure place to attach. If this phase is too short (under about 10 days), the lining may not have enough time to fully prepare, which can make it harder for a pregnancy to get established.[ncbi.nlm.nih]
How To Track Your Luteal Phase
You can track your luteal phase with Inito, OPKs, or PdG test strips. Start testing PdG about three days after your LH surge, and continue through 7 to 10 days past ovulation. A sustained rise in PdG confirms that progesterone is high enough to support implantation.
If your luteal phase runs short or your PdG stays low, bring that information to your provider. You may need extra support in the second half of your cycle.
How Acupuncture Supports Ovulation And The Luteal Phase
Acupuncture supports the brain-ovary connection, improves blood flow to the uterus, and helps regulate the HPO axis. Studies show acupuncture can improve progesterone levels, lengthen the luteal phase, and support implantation.
At Aphrodite, we use acupuncture to:
- Support ovulation quality and follicle development
- Improve corpus luteum function so progesterone rises well
- Warm the uterus and maintain a thick, receptive lining
- Calm the nervous system so hormones can balance
We also stay available by text because you should not have to navigate this alone.
When To ask For More Help
Talk to your provider if you notice:
- A luteal phase under 10 days
- No PdG rise after a positive OPK
- Repeated early spotting or short cycles
- Trouble conceiving after 6 to 12 months of trying
You can also come to us for a consult. We review your cycle, your labs, and your goals, then build a plan that supports your whole system.

Your Next Step
Understanding how to know if you’re ovulating gives you power. Use Inito (Code: APHRODITEINITO) or PdG testing to confirm ovulation, track your luteal phase length, and bring your data to your care team. Add acupuncture to support progesterone, blood flow, and implantation. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you.
